Dear tired teacher... you are AMAZING!
Dear tired teacher,
Any chance you have felt tired or overwhelmed at any given point of this BTS season? Well… in case no one has said it today, I wanted to take a second to tell you… You’re doing a great job!
If you’re a 1st year teacher… You’re doing a great job!
If you’re in a new grade level… You’re doing a great job!
If you’re teaching online… You’re doing a great job!
If you’re a veteran teacher… You’re doing a great job!
The truth is, no matter what kind of teacher you are, or how long you’ve been teaching for, you should know that you are amazing!
We boost our kids' confidence all day long, but I feel like most of us don’t stop to pat ourselves on the back enough.
While you are in the thick of this back to school season, I hope you remember to take care of yourself, to treat yourself, and most importantly to remember… things in your classroom do not have to be - and never will be - perfect.
I wanted to take a second to share 3 things that I remind myself of when I start to feel like the dog in the burning room meme…

3 quick tips for a tired teacher
- Make a list of three. when you get to school (where there is always a rotating list of a million and one things to do)... just make a list of three. Pick three things that are a priority, scratch them off your list with your favorite flair pen, and marvel in your accomplishments. Sure, if you get them done early you can go for that extra credit task #4. But only if you can get it done before dismissal.
- Shut it down! Close the computer, take your email notifications off your phone, and set your Class Dojo quiet hours. It can all wait till morning. You are not on call and deserve your “you time”. Setting boundaries is huge when there are SO MANY ways that people can contact you now-a-days. It’s so important for people to understand that just because their message is instant, doesn’t mean that your reply will be.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff. Letting work, your students’ test scores, or that one very persistent parent, consume your mind is only going to make things worse. If a student of yours was stressed over a test or feeling anxious, you would give them a pep talk. Give yourself that pep talk! Be like Elsa… let it go.
I hope these reminders help bring you some kind of zen!
Happy teaching, you rock, and thank you for all that you do!
With love,
